The Saunders Awards are an attempt to help guide parents toward entertainment products for children that aid healthy moral, intellectual, social, and physical development.
Parents frequently ask their social media groups for recommendations for good toys, books, videos, and other products to buy for their children, or as gifts for other children. The recommendations given are sometimes items that promote healthy development, but are frequently not. Many of the products marketed for children have been designed to take advantage of natural tendencies to conform to stereotypes that restrict development, or to engage in compulsive behavior, or to indulge in excessive and mindless stimulation. Most people do not have backgrounds that help them evaluate products, and are guided by advertisements or popularity. The Saunders family has decades of education and professional experience in the fields of child psychology and development, literature, and games. We will use this site to describe the criteria we use to evaluate products for children, and make some recommendations of products we think will positively influence children's development.
